Flash neither detects the web cam, nor am I even allowed to interact with the
Flash bubble that asks me to allow or deny access to my web cam.

It has a very negative impact on the OS.  Since Pidgin does not support web
cam, the next best thing I have found is Meemo which uses the TokBox software. 
All fail.
